How We Treat Cancer

Our Approach
We use a precision-based approach directed at cancer disease markers. Our natural, targeted treatments attack cancer using precision medical tools that are able to reveal more specific information about each person’s tumor. We utilize treatment algorithms that adopt a step-by-step clinical decision-making process for the type of cancer that is specific to you.

Through specialized lab testing involving circulating tumor cells, we can personalize your therapy based on the unique molecular and genetic characteristics of your particular cancer. Our decision pathways for treatment and targeted biomarkers will be developed according to the details of your tumor.

Determining the Underlying Causes

Our alternative cancer care protocols aim to treat the root cause of the disease, instead of merely alleviating symptoms. Beyond just targeting cancer cells, we aim to cleanse the body of harmful toxins and boost your own immune system.

At Synergy Lifestyle Medicine, we use a variety of treatment modalities, including an array of IV therapies, supplements and ancillary treatments such as colon hydrotherapy and lymphatic drainage.

How does nutrition play a role in cancer development?

A poor diet certainly plays a role in the development of most cancers. Not only can a person eat the wrong kinds, and too much, of foods that increase the risk of cancer, but he or she can also be lacking in the nutrients and foods that help prevent cancer. This is why we ask every new patient about their diet in developing a treatment plan that is customized to their health needs.

If you’re looking to prevent cancer or mitigate the harm of existing cancer, then you should consume more of the following foods:

  • Salmon
  • Bran cereal
  • Cooked eggs, with the yolk
  • Cabbage and sauerkraut
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Avocados
  • Steamed broccoli
  • Carrots
  • Artichoke
  • Bean sprouts
  • Kale
  • Peas
  • Blueberries
  • Apples
  • Grapes and raisins
  • Grapefruit
  • Cherries
  • Kiwi
  • Dates
  • Brazil nuts
  • Tea
  • Pomegranate juice
  • Olive oil

Which foods should I stay away from to prevent/mitigate cancer?

Worried about developing cancer? Then limit your intake of, or completely cut out, the following types of food and beverages:

  • Processed meats – such as bacon, sausage, hot dogs, ham and deli meats, all of which are considered carcinogens
  • Alcohol – which can cause mouth, colorectal and breast cancers
  • Charred or overcooked meat – such as overcooked fish and barbecued meats, which can contain chemicals that increase cancer risk
  • Pickled or highly salted foods – including picked vegetables, salty snacks and salted fish; too much salt overall can lead to hypertension and cancer
  • Overly hot coffee, tea and soup – all of which increase the risk of esophageal cancer; eating or drinking these after they cool down is fine

If you’ve already been diagnosed with cancer and you’re trying to keep it from getting worse or looking for better sustenance as you go through treatment, be mindful of the list above, but also avoid these types of items:

  • Raw or undercooked red meat, fish and poultry
  • Unpasteurized dairy
  • High-fat foods
  • Greasy foods – such as fried food or food cooked in heavy oil
  • Spicy or acidic foods
  • Crunchy or scratchy foods – if you’re having mouth or throat problems
  • High-fiber foods – such as whole grains and vegetables, only if you’re having diarrhea issues

There is no one diet that fixes all problems associated with cancer. But if you stay away from the wrong types of foods, start eating more of the right ones, and follow the advice of your health care team, you will feel better and have a stronger shot of beating cancer.

What other factors need to be considered in alternative cancer care?

Besides evaluating your diet and its role in your cancer risk or the cancer you’ve already developed, we also assess many other life factors during our extended initial conversation with you.

Other areas of life that play a role in the development and exacerbation of cancer include:

  • Whether you get enough exercise (or if you do too strenuous of exercises)
  • Lifestyle conditions
    • Environmental factors such as where you live and work
    • The level of stress you endure from work, relationships and daily responsibilities
  • Genetics – if your family has a history of cancer and disease

Why does cancer often come back after clinical treatments?

As you well know, there is no universal cure for cancer. There are also no guarantees when it comes to cancer treatment, whether clinical, alternative or otherwise.

Cancer can return and even get worse because clinical treatment does always kill or remove every cancer cell. Sometimes, smaller cells break off from the main cancer and flourish elsewhere in the body, undetected at first. In other cases, cancers become resistant to treatment.

Sometimes, cancer cells go dormant, either through treatment or naturally, but may reactivate after a period of time. If cancer is to return, it usually happens within the first two years after treatment. After five years, the risk of the cancer returning drops even further. Nonetheless, doctors typically refrain from saying you’re “cured” of cancer, even if it has been in remission for a couple of years.

Once you’ve had cancer, it’s always a threat to come back, possibly in a different area of the body. That’s why we take so much time with you to learn your background and run tests to determine the underlying cause(s) of your cancer. If it goes into remission, we will recommend certain treatments and lifestyle adjustments that will lower its risk of coming back. This is the crux of holistic cancer treatment.
